Title:I remanufactured paper used in Nebuta Matsuri (festival), to which I transferred an image of the river.

I have heard at my first visit to Aomori city that in old days, people would have washed Nebuta floats down the river on a final day of matsuri. Inspired by the fact, I got washi paper used for Nebuta and remanufactured it to use as a support, and tried transferring to the paper a trace of Bijin river flowing below the site (former Kareisawa elementary school) — firstly, I tore off paper out of big Nebuta floats, boiled the paper in alkaline water, and dried it with the heater of former Saitamaseishi paper pilot plant. Next, I carried the material to former Kareisawa elementary school and remanufactured it at the schoolyard. Finally, I spread konjak (a traditional weather proofer) on the paper, carried it to Bijin river, got the paper absorbed into the river-bank, spread on it paraffin paper (a material used for Nebuta float. I used paraffin paper because it is not absorbed into places wet with water.) at the waterside, and let a blurring outline of the river emerge. Also, I boiled paints dissolved from washi paper of Nebuta floats, mixed bokuju (Indian ink) with them, rubbed the paints with my palms and foots, and finally transferred an image of the river to the paper. The prints were shown together with four video works recording each process of printing done at some sheds in the site.
