Title:Motoaikai 2002
Here I tried to establish an individual relationship between the site and myself, which can be revealed only through the object I paint (Motoaikai area as a site involving many elements such as the climate and people who live there).
Specific procedures of working include: marking out the reedy riverside area of Mogamigawa river; cropping out plants growing there; processing them into pulp-like shape with a technique of hand-made washi paper (under the cooperation
of technique holder of Hosokawashi paper, important intangible cultural asset); and pouring them into the site (which is a support of this work) where the plants were originally growing. On the surface I drew something based on what I saw and
felt there with paints made of Indian ink and materials originated in the site, as if carving images on it with paintbrush.
The struggle between such actions repeated there and nature (grass breaking the picture plane, nest of ants, etc.) turns into an expression as a painting.
This presentation is an artwork about the relationship between nature and an aspect that can be embodied only through man’s action of drawing.
